WELL-BEING & MENTAL HEALTH AT FREEMAN
As a school, we are committed to supporting the mental health and wellbeing of ALL our pupils.
What is Well-being & Mental Health?
Well-being is defined as the state of being comfortable, healthy, or happy.
It includes having good mental health, high life satisfaction, a sense of meaning or purpose, and being able to manage stress.
Mental health includes our emotional, psychological, and social wellbeing. It affects how we think, feel, and act. It also helps determine how we handle stress, relate to others, and make choices.
Mental health is important at every stage of life, from childhood and adolescence through adulthood.
How do we support the mental health and well-being of our children?
We know that anyone, for various reasons, may need additional emotional support at some point during their school life and when this happens we aim to offer the support and advice needed for both the pupils and their parents/carers.
We are lucky enough to have a qualified Emotional Literacy Support Assistant (ELSA) at Freeman CP School, Mrs Oxford, to support children with any social or emotional difficulties that they might be experiencing both at school and home.
ELSA is an initiative developed and supported by educational psychologists. It recognises that children learn better and are happier in school if their emotional needs are addressed.
We also have a Nurture Group and a Year 6 Well-Being Team who do activities at lunchtime with any children who need time out or quiet time such as colouring, calming jars, building with cubes and sensory activities.
