Art and Design
It is our intent at Freeman to give all children the opportunity to express themselves through different art styles and forms. We deliver an Art curriculum which is accessible to all abilities, enabling children to grow in confidence in their own skills, and develop themselves as individual artists. We aim to develop the children’s competence in controlling materials and tools, acquire knowledge and become proficient in various art and design techniques and processes. They begin to develop an awareness of the visual and tactile elements including; colour, pattern and texture, line and tone, shape, form and space. We aim to foster enjoyment and appreciation of the visual arts and develop a knowledge of significant artists, craftspeople and designers and how subjective art can be and understand how to use and apply this knowledge to impact positively on their own artwork. We like our children to explore, be creative and develop a personal style of art.
The national curriculum for art and design aims to ensure that all pupils:
- produce creative work, exploring their ideas and recording their experiences
- become proficient in drawing, painting, sculpture and other art, craft and design techniques
- evaluate and analyse creative works using the language of art, craft and design
- know about great artists, craft makers and designers, and understand the historical and cultural development of their art forms.
