Early Years Foundation Stage
The intent at Freeman is to celebrate the uniqueness of every child. We recognise that that every child learns and develops in different ways, at different rates and all bring diverse interests and experiences to the class. The intent is to develop independence, curiosity, resilience and critical thinking through a play based curriculum. We will nurture the child’s own interests and strengths and incorporate these into their learning. The intent is to provide a broad and varied curriculum to equip the children for their future life at Freeman and beyond.
Four guiding principles shape the practice in early years settings. These are:
- every child is a unique child, who is constantly learning and can be resilient, capable, confident and self-assured
- children learn to be strong and independent through positive relationships
- children learn and develop well in enabling environments with teaching and support from adults, who respond to their individual interests and needs and help them to build their learning over time. Children benefit from a strong partnership between practitioners and parents and/or carers.
- importance of learning and development. Children develop and learn at different rates.
