Religious Education
It is our intent at Freeman Community Primary School to provide pupils with a high quality education in RE to enable pupils to learn from and about religion, so that they can understand the world around them. Through Religious Education, pupils develop their knowledge of the world faiths, and their understanding and awareness of the beliefs, values and traditions of other individuals, societies, communities and cultures. We encourage our pupils to ask questions about the world and to reflect on their own beliefs, values and experiences. Our Religious Education curriculum is enhanced further with trips to places of worship in our local area. At Freeman Community Primary School, Religious Education plays an important role, along with all other curriculum areas, in promoting the spiritual, moral, social, and cultural development of our children.
The national curriculum for RE aims to ensure that all pupils:
- Ask questions about the ultimate meaning and purpose of life, beliefs, issues of right and wrong and what it means to be human
- Develop a knowledge and understanding of Christianity and other key religions such as Judaism, Hinduism, Buddhism, Islam, Sikhism and Humanism and learn from these
- Explore the concepts of religion and belief and their roles in the spiritual, moral and cultural lives of people in a diverse society to develop moral awareness and social understanding
