Beech Class have been learning about Guy Fawkes Day and the importance of Remembrance Day. They made a display of poppies to mark the special occasion.

Deadline - Wednesday 11th November. As a Rights Respecting School our Rights Champions have chosen to support this wonderful charity as our next project to help children around the world in need. They would like to see how many shoeboxes we can fill as a school and send a little piece of joy to children this Christmas. We are delighted to be supporting Samaritan's Purse Operation Christmas Child, which brings joy to children around the world through gift-filled shoeboxes. We would love for our families to get involved by filling a shoebox for a specific aged girl or boy (2-4 years, 5-9 years or 10-14 years). These could include toys, stationery, colouring items, toiletries and other suitable little gifts that will bring a smile to a child's face. The children have seen a completed box in school, so they have lots of ideas. Leaflets with further information and guidance on what to include are available from the school office. These explain how to prepare your shoebox and the types of items that can be donated. If you would like to take part, please pick up a leaflet from the office or look on their website https://www.samaritans-purse.org.uk/ Please bring your completed shoebox into school by Wednesday 11th November. Your support, however big or small, will help make a difference to a child's Christmas, and we are very grateful for your generosity. Thank you for supporting this wonderful initiative

Year 4 returned to school after the half term with a trip to Flatford Mill. The theme of the day was how we can protect our waterways and wildlife through art activism, taking inspiration from John Constable. First, we explored the freshwater habitat of Dedham Vale through pond dipping. Using classification keys, we identified the animals we found and were able to assess the health of the water based on the variety of species present. Next, we created persuasive slogans to encourage people to protect local waterways, drawing inspiration from the environment and using our senses to spark ideas. Finally, we produced collage artwork using recycled materials. These pieces will be displayed alongside artwork from other schools as part of the celebrations marking 250 years since Constable's birth. We had a very enjoyable day and we especially enjoyed the pond dipping where there were a few wet feet despite wearing wellies!

A huge thank you to Don (fondly known as The Pumpkin Man) who lives in the village, who grows the Year 3 class pumpkins every year. The children were delighted when they arrived on Tuesday and have used them for observational drawings in Art and fingerpainted them as cats, ghosts or spiders to take home. A wonderful treat for the children.

The children all had a fantastic time at the Football Festival last week. For some, it was their very first tournament experience, and they represented the school brilliantly throughout the day. A special congratulations to our Year 4 team, who narrowly missed out on a place in the final by just one point. We are incredibly proud of all the children for their enthusiasm, teamwork, and excellent sportsmanship. 🏆

Hazel class took part in the 'Take 10 to read' initiative aiming to set a new Guinness World Record title for the most people reading online in 12 hours. We listened to an author read her book and an illustrator taught us how to draw a character from her book. We then spent 10 minutes reading, along with schools across the globe. It was such an exciting event and we are looking forward to hearing whether we have helped to set a new Guinness World Record Title. #Take10toRead.

The Book Fair is a wonderful opportunity for children to discover new books and develop a love of reading. Reading is one of the most important skills a child can learn. It helps to build vocabulary, improve imagination and creativity, develop concentration, and support learning across all areas of the curriculum. Most importantly, reading for pleasure can foster a lifelong love of books and learning. We look forward to welcoming you to our Book Fair and helping our children discover their next great read! 📖

The Lunchtime Co are promoting the attached "Pirate Day" menu with the following options available: Option 1: "Golden Nugget" Chicken Bites or Option 2: Sailor's Vegetable Nuggets Both options served with Potato Wedges, Sweetcorn "Coins" Dessert will be: Chocolate Sprinkle Treasure Cookies Or Fresh Fruit Pot Dietary/medical options, jacket potatoes and school packed lunches with ham, cheese or tuna will also be available. We hope that you will take up this offer of a free lunch and the children will enjoy their school meal.
