Cherry Tree - Year 1

Welcome to Cherry Tree Class

Our Year 1 Class Teacher is Mrs Holly Warby and our teaching assistant is Ms Marnie Adams.

As part of our E I E I O topic we will study our local area in Geography, learn about our local farms and create maps. We will study machines used on farms whilst looking at the process of making foods. In cooking we will learn how to make bread and will even have a go ourselves. In History we will look at farm machinery throughout time and compare current machinery with machinery from the past. In English we will explore a variety of fiction stories including Funnybones, The Little Red Hen and The Scarecrow's Wedding. We will do alot of roleplay, storytelling and sequencing. We will also explore harvest themed rhyming poems, wedding invitations and information leaflets on farm machinery. In Art and DT we will use clay and a range of materials to make items for characters from The Scarecrow's Wedding.

Have a look at our topic poster to discover what else we will be learning about in Science, PE and Maths.

Children are expected to practise their spellings for their weekly spelling test which will happen every Friday. Children are also rewarded with a mini bee for reading at least four times in one week at home. Contact books will be checked every Tuesday.

Alongside reading and working on spellings, we would like to encourage children to choose from a variety of fun and exciting activities from the homework sheet. One piece should be completed per week. Children can bring their proud efforts to School so that we can see what you've done.

We were lucky enough to visit Pizza Express and we each made our own delicious pizza! We carefully used our fingers to make the crust of our pizza and then we used a spoon to spread passata over our pizza bases. Finally we added the mozzarella cheese. We discussed where the ingredients came from and how the pizza dough was made. We watched as our pizzas were cooked in a very hot stone oven. We all thought our pizzas tasted great!
